Sustainability and brewing with a conscience is at the heart of our business

Since 2005, Trailblazers of their time, Jim and Paul set out not only to produce great quality beer every time but to do it in a way that had the least impact on the environment and our surrounding community. Sustainability has always been close to our hearts. We care about our environment and work from the ground up to brew beer which is ‘crafted with a conscience’. Underpinned by our B-Corp accreditation and measured through our annual Carbon Emissions Report.

Below are just a handful of initiates that we have implemented on our journey from 2005 to reduce our carbon footprint now and into the future.

Our cans and bottles use forest film labels; a 100% renewable, ISCC certified alternative to plastic.

Our brewery water heating system is 95% efficient, using latest heat exchange and steam recapture technology to reduce our energy consumption.

Since day one we have embraced the circular economy. Today we send over 750,000 litres of spent yeast to local farmers every year to feed their pigs, we sell 1,400,000 kilos of spent grain and 162,000 kilos of spent hops are used as fertilizer.

We recycle our wastewater by using a natural wetland system. By doing this we ensure pure water is going back into the water system, whilst creating a unique and thriving ecosystem.

It takes just 2.8 pints of water for every pint brewed, compared to the industry average of around 8 pints.

We are on a journey to become B Corp certified. B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy and we cant wait to join them.

Our very own Pure Eco sustainability forum is made up of members from every part of our business - collectively working together to build on our Pure Eco mantra to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Their ultimate goal: reducing our impact on the environment and our overall Carbon Emissions.

All of our carboard packaging is now made from a  minimum of 75% recycled material.

From cask to keg to bottle and can, each one of our award-winning beers are fully vegan.

No stranger to winning awards for our sustainability practices, our most recent is the 2020 Green Business Award from the Society of Independent Brewers.

From April 2023 our glass bottles are 50g lighter resulting in a 13% reduction in total packaging emissions. Read more on our blog.
